20 Mar 17- Happy Spring Equinox

They say when something has to happen it would happen without an effort and if it doesn't have to happen, no matter how much you try it just woudnt. I wasent quite a firm believer of this until we landed in Mumbai on Tarini. While taking the boat out on 03 Mar (marking the 8th anniversary of the maiden sortie of the Mhadei from Goa to Mumbai with Adm Awati and Capt Donde) did require some effort towards making it happen, landing in Mumbai on 07 Mar against all efforts made to try to enter a day and a half prior was something that went out of our control. The day however reminded us of our own maiden sortie onboard the Mhadei a year ago on 07 Mar 16 when we returned to Goa from Vizag. So a sleepless day and a half of struggling to dodge the fishing traffic outside Mumbai harbor eventually was considered as worth the effort.

As we gear up for the next step, I realise there are so many loopholes and undone stuff that need to be attended to before we set out next. Lets hope we can make this happen. For us 6, check out the link below:

Takeaways: 1. Imminent - within six hours from the time of issue
                    Soon- 6-12 hrs
                    later - after 12 hours
                    2. Wind forecasts may generally be considered from a 10 m height. So at the top of our mast, its going to be almost the double.
                    3. Gust factor is more significant than the forecasted avg wind speed. Gusts are more common during squalls & thunderstorms than a rainy weather.

Maiden Sortie Tarini

Tarini casted off on 03 Mar 17 at 1100hrs from Goa for Mumbai. The newly inducted vessel of Indian Navy has taken its baby steps but it has stepped into the big shoes of its older sister Mhadei as on the same day exactly 8 years back the iconic Mhadei had taken its maiden voyage with our mentor" The First Indian" at the helm and Our Godfather Vice Admiral Awati as his crew so it goes without saying the forthcoming voyages will be equally legendary.
Vj and Aish are onboard getting busy in handling the boat in the absence of other Nautigirls. We thought we were carrying enough ration and fresh drinking water to last us for the sortie but we will now have to be really cautious while cooking sumptious meals since to our dismay we have be been denied entry in the mumbai harbour and now we have to wait for an additional two days at the harbour mouth..Any suggestions for another place of visit nearby??
So lets us tell you how does it feel like to sail short handed..yesterday after we decided to hoist the sail it took our muscle power to full throtle to take 100kgs of sail up the 25m mast.. after we accomplished this feat we heaved a sigh of relief as our lungs fell short of oxygen.. hats off to Donde and Tomy sir who have done it all by themselves all the way across the globe. The meal prepared afterwards was to compensate for the task accomplished and chole chawal-the first ever meal prepared in the tarini galley along with some fresh curd and mouth watering salad was polished off while cooking itself.
The night was longer than usual as the 24hrs watch on the deck was divided between two of us and we kept taking power naps and power snacks throughout the night...After catching up on some solid sleep after the dawn broke crispy cheese mix veg freshly baked sandwich with strawberry cornflakes topped with fresh strawberry, mango milkshake and orange juice made a simple yet lavish breakfast.
We are now discovering voice of tarini with sea..sailing along with the waves as the tagline says "Dream.Sail.Discover" fair winds and follwing seas and many fathoms under the keel to us.
